FindAPhD 2014 Postgraduate Scholarship winner

We are delighted to announce that Sarah Morrow has been awarded the Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences PhD Scholarship, worth £500, from FindAPhD.com. Sarah, who is the recipient of an Oxford-Radcliffe Studentship at University College, joined the first SBM CDT cohort in October.

Sarah is thrilled to have won this prize: “I am glad that the drawing goes some way to explain the importance of the interdisciplinary aspect of my training and the application of Chemistry to the wider world. I chose my course since I thought it was an excellent idea to provide synthetic chemists by training with knowledge of basic biology and medicine, as well as continuing an extremely high standard of teaching in emerging organic chemistry. Problems at the frontier of all three disciplines can be solved using this interdisciplinary approach”.

For the future, Sarah likes the idea of remaining in touch with Chemistry after her PhD, whether in scientific policy, publishing or patenting: “I think the ability to communicate scientific research, a skill I should develop over the next four years, will be very important in this kind of setting”.
The globally leading postgraduate programme directories received a staggering response to this year’s Postgraduate Scholarship initiative, with over 2,800 entrants from across the world competing for sixteen Scholarship awards worth a combined total of £9,000.

Andy Pritchard, Managing Director of FindAMasters.com and FindAPhD.com, said:

“Our Postgraduate Scholarships scheme underlines our ongoing commitment to support Masters and PhD students in all aspects of their academic life, from finding their degree programme to helping them fund their studies. The standard of applications was incredibly high, with applications ranging from film trailers to original songs, and animations to pieces of artwork.”

“Sarah’s application underlined her research interests in Chemistry and Biology with a hugely informative piece of artwork. We were thrilled to award our Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences PhD Scholarship to such a passionate student and we’re delighted that we can help to support Sarah in her studies.”
